We do not write for awards. We write because we can’t help it. Stories need air. They struggle their way into life, into shape, a gruelling process, and then finally give birth, mostly with great difficulty.
From here, they’re out of your hands. Once printed, read, and reviewed, you feel vulnerable. You allowed a bit of sun to shine on your soul. It’s not easy. It’s personal.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you hit the right vein and the work is recognised. In my case, IVOOR. Nominated for the ATKV Woordveertjie-award in 2022. Making it to the top three, up again the experienced Rudie van Rensburg and Chris Karstens.
That, in itself, was an unbelievable honour.
Congratulations to Rudie for taking top honours. I am very happy to bow to that experience, and super happy to share the limelight for a brief moment. It is inspiring, to say the least.
